Portfolio Critique

And here's my portfolio critique that I couldn't print...

Portfolio Critique

My portfolio shows how I went from only using Photoshop for digital art, to also using Illustrator, because before just about all of my work would’ve been done on Photoshop, but in grade 10 I learned about how Photoshop creates raster images and Illustrator creates vector images. I also learned how different the two programs are, and what to use for different things. It can also show how my design process has changed, now I am able to choose a colour to actually stick by when choosing a colour for my logo, although it is not a completely set colour, it is a chosen colour for default uses. My design choices for my portfolio compliment my brand identity and personality of my company because there’s the colourful, edgy and wacky webpage mockup that I did that has many bright colours like my brand identity. I also have a parody image of Stephen Harper which shows the fun mood of my company. And the other works show my seriousness and technical skills, so people don’t think my company’s all about fun and games. This portfolio might evolve and contain even more of my works, and my brand identity could become more personal to me later on, so when I apply to a university/college or a job, right away people will know who I am, what I can do, and could just hire me right on the spot if I’m who they’re looking for.

And if I had more time, and had sent myself my logo like I originally thought, I probably would have it on my banner right now. Also, if I had InDesign at home, along with my logos, I would probably have my business cards done as well.

Brand Identity Critique

Since my printer is being dumb and won't let me print in BLACK ink because it ran out of RED ink, I'm going to post my brand identity critique on here...

Brand Identity Critique

For my design process, I basically chose a logo I made in grade 9, only I reworked it so that it was a vector based image and not a raster. Also, I decided to leave it 2D like it was originally designed with my thumbnail sketches in grade 9, instead of making it 3D like the original raster logo. Originally the logo had no colour to it, as we were creating them in grayscale so that they could be printed. However, I often experimented with different colours for the logo, and just about any colour worked whether it was pink, blue, red, green, yellow, orange, purple, black or white. So I never really chose one colour for it. When designing to apply it to my own personal identity however, I decided to make the logo hot pink as the default as pink was my favourite colour as a kid, and because most of my friends describe me as strong, tomboyish and anti-girly, I decided to use the colour pink as it usually represents the total opposite of that and is in fact a colour often associated with femininity and girliness. So it could be like trying to not make pink a girly colour, or doing the opposite of what people say to contrast my personality. Another colour I was thinking about was a bright blue, even though it’s not one of my favourite colours (I prefer a more greenish blue), blue symbolizes loyalty, it’s mostly liked by both genders, and it creates calm emotions. But I chose pink because it had that childhood-like feel to it, which is something I like to incorporate into my work.

If I had more time, I probably would’ve designed a new logo or edited up this logo to make the lines a little edgier and have some style to them, as they sort of seem too clam and plain for the way I want to display my brand identity. This brand identity reflect me because I like cats, they are my favourite animal. And the cartoon look to the logo reflects what I typically like to draw and design. I already discussed my colour choice and how it reflects me, but most likely the colours for the logo will be different from time to time as I don’t really have one specific colour that I like, which is also a part of my personality, I don’t tend to like only one colour over all the rest, and I tend to like to give everything an equal chance. But by default if anything is designed, the logo will most likely be a bright pink.
